Take Advantage of a Few Trends

Trend 1:

Companies are beginning to hire again.

Between November 2009 and November 2010, the total number of job openings rose 32%, according to the Labor Department.

Trend 2:

Lots of people are out there looking for jobs.  People who are unhappy with their jobs but were afraid to leave as well as the unemployed.

Between December 2009 and December 2010, recruiters saw a 17% increase in applications per opening, according to the Corporate Executive Board.

Trend 3:

Job boards and job postings generating thousands of unqualified applicants are being replaced by focused recruiting and increased use of social networking sites.

A  recent WSJ article stated,  "nearly 80% of respondents said they plan to increase their use of job-board alternative methods this year, such as employee referrals and other websites like Facebook  or LinkedIn".
